Embossing Powder Techniques #1

Faux Reptile Purse Favours

This cute favour box was cut out with the Big Shot and Stampin' Up!'s exclusive Matchbox die.

I was inspired by Francine Yee's Pumpkin Pie sample to  make the others.

Punch a hole in the side of the box and insert the ribbon. I used glue dots to secure it. Then assemble the box.

Fold the slipcase and the flap on all the score lines. Apply a VersaMark pad to both pieces, except for the small tab section. Pour Clear EP (embossing powder) onto the card stock and shake off the excess. Draw a bone folder across the surfaces in uneven lines
Use a heat tool to melt EP until it is shiny and let cool.
Punch a hole in the flap and insert a brad. Assemble the slipcase and adhere the flap. Stick the brad to the case with a glue dot.

Vellum Techniques #11

The dreamy translucent quality of vellum is especially lovely for wedding themes. Just choose a font (I used Coronet) and print a title on a vellum mat then lay it over a photo. Great for invitations, too! Make sure your vellum is compatible with your printer.

I punched 1/8 in. holes through the vellum and photo and secured them together with ribbon.

The heart embellishment is punched from stamped vellum and the pearl and rhinestone border hides the adhesive.

Halloween Pop-up Treat Box

Even though I don't celebrate Halloween, I get such a kick out of all the spooky themes. This little treat holder has a pop-up bat cute enough to scare a smile out of anyone!

The pop-up device is a strip of Window Sheet (acetate) scored lightly and adhered to the bottom of the box under another card stock layer. So easy! I'll have other samples of this idea in my future series on Window Sheets.

Vellum Techniques #10

The translucent quality of vellum makes it perfect for votive holders. I only use battery-powered ones. Please don't use a real candle!

I stamped the image on card stock vellum, then sponged Daffodil Delight and More Mustard inks on the back.

The holder is cut from textured card stock and rubbed with an ink pad for a distressed look. Use a circle punch to cut the window and adhere the vellum.

The ribbon handle is attached by rhinestone brads.

I pierced snowflake designs in vellum card stock and sponged Marina Mist ink on them. Too bad this picture doesn't show the effect at all.

The base of the votive is made from a chipboard circle. The vellum is adhered to it by the card stock strip.

I love the Glass Glitter from the Holiday Mini Catalogue on the rim.

I used a compass to draw a 2 1/2 in. half-circle and a 5 1/2 in. half-circle from the same point on scrap paper. Measure the circumference of the rim of your Champagne flute and mark the distance on the small half-circle. Decide how big you want the bottom of the shade to be and mark the measurement on the big half-circle. Join the marks and add a 1/4 in. overlap. I used decorative edge scissors on the bottom when I cut out the vellum.

Swipe an embossing buddy over the shade, then use VersaMark on your stamp. I used white embossing powder and heated it being careful not to melt the vellum. Once the vellum has cooled adhere the seam and decorate.

I used small adhesive half pearls on the rim of the shade and larger ones on the flute stem. I filled the glass with pearl beads and nestled a battery-powered votive in them.
