Vellum Techniques #10

The translucent quality of vellum makes it perfect for votive holders. I only use battery-powered ones. Please don't use a real candle!

I stamped the image on card stock vellum, then sponged Daffodil Delight and More Mustard inks on the back.

The holder is cut from textured card stock and rubbed with an ink pad for a distressed look. Use a circle punch to cut the window and adhere the vellum.

The ribbon handle is attached by rhinestone brads.

I pierced snowflake designs in vellum card stock and sponged Marina Mist ink on them. Too bad this picture doesn't show the effect at all.

The base of the votive is made from a chipboard circle. The vellum is adhered to it by the card stock strip.

I love the Glass Glitter from the Holiday Mini Catalogue on the rim.

I used a compass to draw a 2 1/2 in. half-circle and a 5 1/2 in. half-circle from the same point on scrap paper. Measure the circumference of the rim of your Champagne flute and mark the distance on the small half-circle. Decide how big you want the bottom of the shade to be and mark the measurement on the big half-circle. Join the marks and add a 1/4 in. overlap. I used decorative edge scissors on the bottom when I cut out the vellum.

Swipe an embossing buddy over the shade, then use VersaMark on your stamp. I used white embossing powder and heated it being careful not to melt the vellum. Once the vellum has cooled adhere the seam and decorate.

I used small adhesive half pearls on the rim of the shade and larger ones on the flute stem. I filled the glass with pearl beads and nestled a battery-powered votive in them.
