Ink Techniques: Stamping Off

Stamping Off is a simple idea that yields big results in lots of ways. Just as the name implies, you ink your stamp and stamp any number of times before re-inking. The image becomes lighter with each stamp.

Lighten the colour of an outline image
I used just one colour of ink on this card, but I stamped the outline image behind the sentiment on scrap paper first before stamping the mat to lighten the colour.

Tiny Flowers Detail
To make these little flowers punch the 4-petal flower and pierce a hole in the centre. Then tie a knot in the end of a piece of hemp twine and trim the end close to the knot. Thread the twine through the hole in the flower and secure with a dot of glue.
Lighten the colour of a solid image
The sentiment was layered over a solid image stamp with the same colour of ink, lightened by stamping on scrap paper.

Motion
Create the illusion of motion by stamping an inked image 3 times. Start with the final position depicting the end of the action and go backwards in time, so to speak with each subsequent and lighter image.
I used markers to colour the sentiment with different colours.

Ink Techniques: Stencil

Faux Mat Stencil with Images
The Faux Mat on this card was made using a stencil. I sponged the outer edges and used a Jumbo Stampin' Around Wheel for the images. Stamped images would work, too!

The edges of the Decorative Label were inked with Sponge Daubers and the cut out "F" was raised with Dimensionals.

I sprayed the paper daisy with water and added a drop of ink, then dried it with a Heat Tool.

Stencil Placement

I used the Big Shot and the Top Note die to cut out the stencil shape. Use paper if you want a sharply defined edge. The thickness of card stock will make a less defined edge.

Use removable adhesive and place the positive image where you want the stencil to be on the card front.

With removable adhesive, adhere the negative image to the card front with the positive image inside the negative image; like putting two puzzle pieces together. Remove the positive image.

Now sponge colour on the inside edges and stamp images. Remove the stencil.

Faux Mat Stencil and Layers
The Oval Faux Mat on this card was cut with the Big Shot and the Ovals die. Follow the instructions above for perfect stencil placement. After applying ink with a Sponge Dauber, I layered a background stamp and the leaf spray image on the mat.

The edges of the sentiment label were inked with a sponge dauber and adhered with Dimensionals.

I used Satin ribbon, twisted and adhered to 3/4 in. circle of Sticky Page to make the ribbon rose.
